prospective cadets

Air Force ROTC is a challenge.  It isn't easy.  It provides you with opportunities to hone your time management, physical fitness, critical thinking and interpersonal skills – and helps you push yourself to achieve unimagineable goals.

The program helps you get a head start on success, within the Air Force and Space Force and beyond.  It may also be a way to get the money you need for college.  Eligible high school students may compete for an Air Force ROTC scholarship.  Participating cadets who are not on a high school scholarship may compete for the in-college scholarship.

Program Overview

The four-year Air Force ROTC program consists of one academic class, one leadership lab, and two physical fitness sessions per week, as well as a few weeks of training in Maxwell Air Force and Space Force Base, Ala., during the summer between sophomore and junior years.  Condensed program tracks are also available at the discretion of the detachment commander.

General Military Course

AS100 - Freshman Year
For this year AFROTC cadets will mainly concentrate on learning about the military and followership.  Cadets will be introduced to military customs and courtesies, marching and listening skills.  The emphasis is on introducing cadets to the Air Force and Space Force and teaching what will be expected of them in the military.

AS200 - Sophomore Year
Beginning this year, cadets start to take more of a leadership role in helping to mentor the new AS100 cadets.  They learn about the history of the Air Force and Space Force and begin preparing for LEAD, a training program they'll attend the upcoming summer at Maxwell Air Force and Space Force Base, Ala.  This year is mainly geared towards reinforcing knowledge and skills, which heavy emphasis placed on preparing cadets for LEAD.

Professional Officer Course

AS300 - Junior Year
Upon graduating from LEAD and becoming an AS300, cadets take on a great deal more responsibility.  They are generally responsible for the day to day undertakings of the Wing, and are the most involved in training AS100s and AS200s.  During this year, a heavy emphasis is placed on honing leadership skills and interacting with followers.

AS400 - Senior Year
AS400s are involved in leading the Wing and planning long term goals for the Wing to work towards.  While not as involved hands on as the AS300s are, they hold responsibility for all operations of the Wing.

AS700 /800 - Extended Cadets
Depending on the degree plan chosen, cadets may undertake a fifth year to complete all academic requirements.  During this time, cadets will usually act as advisors or lead special projects that don't immediately affect the Wing.

Requirements

GMC are required to spend five hours a week towards AFROTC, POC six hours a week towards AFROTC.  Cadets on scholarship must maintain a 2.5 term GPA, those not contracted must maintain a 2.0 term GPA.  Also, cadets must maintain at least 80% attendance to the Aerospace Studies class, Leadership Laboratory and Physical Training.  Class and Leadership Laboratory occur once a week, and cadets must attend Physical Training, which lasts for one hour, twice a week.  Finally, cadets must pass a physical fitness test.  The Physical Fitness Assessment(PFA) is the official AFROTC test to measure physical fitness.  It consists of a waist-size measurement, one minute of push-ups, one minute of sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run.  You must score at least a 75 and be at or over the minimums in every category to pass the test.
